ROB GUIVER, the Premier-sponsored track racer from Essex, brought the curtain down on a magnificent season at the weekend with another stunning race double, this time on the iconic Assen track in Holland.
Rob and his Hyside Motorcycles team had already been crowned Ducati Trioptions Cup champions following their triumphant display at Silverstone a fortnight ago when they sealed the title with two sumptuous wins.
And with the title in the bag, the team were determined to put on a champion’s display if the final two races of the season. And that they did with fastest laps, pole positions and first-place finishes on both Saturday and Sunday’s races.
Predictably, Rob was in buoyant mood afterward. With Premier’s MD Neil Johns watching alongside, Rob told the waiting reporters: “It’s just been absolutely awesome. We’ve had an incredible weekend, everything’s just gone absolutely perfect. Fastest in every session, two wins, two lap records, it’s just topped off one of the best years I’ve ever had.
“It’s been a very hard year mentally, always thinking about the championship because I’ve never done it before trying to clinch it. To win it at Silverstone and come here and win, it’s been fantastic.”
Rob’s domination of this season’s Ducati Cup was perfectly illustrated in the final points table. He finished more than a hundred points clear of his nearest rivals with an amazing 10 race victories to his name.
Awesome, simply awesome.
