Explore LPS 1175 ratings →LPS 1175 C5, the Issue 8 rating commonly compared with SR3, certifies that a complete product has resisted a deliberate, planned attack with Category C tools, including an axe, crowbar and gas torch, for at least five minutes. It is a common step up from SR2 for commercial premises, schools, healthcare and retail. Premier Security Ballistic & Blast Ltd manufactures LPCB certified C5 curtain walling doorsets, screens and fixed windows, Ultimate High Security Curtain Walling and Kraken 3 sliding gates, all listed on LPCB Red Book Live.
LPS 1175 is the Loss Prevention Standard for intruder resistant building components, published by the Loss Prevention Certification Board (LPCB), part of BRE Global. Every Issue 8 rating has two parts: the letter sets the tools the attacker can use, and the number sets the minimum delay in minutes the product must achieve.
At C5, the test team attacks the locked product with Category C tools and must not create a 400 mm x 225 mm opening, the minimum size a person can climb through, within five minutes of working time. Any part of the assembly can be targeted, including the leaf, frame, glazing, infill panels, hinges, locks and fixings, so the whole product has to perform.
Category C assumes a planned attack by someone who has come prepared and is not concerned about noise. The kit includes everything in Categories A and B plus heavier leverage, impact and cutting tools:
That is a significant step up from SR2. An attacker with an axe, crowbar and lump hammer can apply far more force to frames, hinges and glazing than one with bolt cutters and a claw hammer, and the extra two minutes of delay give a response team more time to arrive.
| Issue 8 | Issue 7 | Tool category | Minimum delay | Typical use |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| B3 | SR2 | B: bolt cutters, claw hammer, cordless drill | 3 minutes | Communal entrances, residential blocks, low-risk commercial |
| C5 | SR3 | C: axe, crowbar, lump hammer, gas torch | 5 minutes | Commercial premises, schools, healthcare, retail |
| D10 | SR4 | D: 18V cordless disc grinders, reciprocating saws, sledgehammer | 10 minutes | High-value commercial, industrial, utilities |
LPS 1175 Issue 8 came into effect in 2019 and was the most substantial revision of the standard to date. It replaced the single SR1 to SR8 scale with a tool category letter (A to H) followed by a minimum delay in minutes (1, 3, 5, 10, 15 or 20). C5 is the Issue 8 classification commonly compared with the old SR3: a deliberate attack with Category C tools, held off for at least five minutes.
All of Premier Security's C5 products are certified under Issue 8, so their certificates show C5 and the products can be described as C5 (SR3) for comparison with older specifications.
Check the letter and the number: Issue 8 allows the same tool category to be tested to different delays, from C1 up to C20. A C3 product resists Category C tools for three minutes, not five, so it is not a C5 product even though the letter matches. Always check both parts of the rating on the certificate.
Specifier note: where a specification calls for LPS 1175 SR3, Issue 8 C5 is the current classification for that threat level. If the wording insists on Issue 7 specifically, confirm with the specifier that a C5 product is acceptable before ordering.
Premier Security holds LPCB certification for the following products at C5. Sizes are the certified structural openings shown on each certificate. Openings outside these ranges are not covered by the rating, so our technical team will confirm the certified configuration for every opening.
| Product | LPCB ref | Configurations | Certified structural opening |
|---|---|---|---|
| Jansen Façade C5 Curtain Walling Doorset | 1097g/01 | Hinged single or double leaf, inward or outward opening, side panel options | Single leaf up to 6.07 m high x 1.7 m wide; double leaf up to 3.06 m x 3.28 m; unlimited width with side panels |
| Jansen Façade C5 Curtain Walling Screen | 1097h/01 | Modular security screen with glazed, opaque and/or louvre panels. Can incorporate the C5 doorset | From 0.485 m, with no maximum height or width on the certificate |
| Jansen Façade C5 Curtain Walling Fixed Window | 1097i/01 | Single fixed light with glazed and/or opaque panels, as a single infill or multiple infills in portcullis style framing | 0.485 m to 3.0 m high x 0.485 m to 3.0 m wide |
The screen and fixed window are available in standard, thermally broken or fire rated profiles, with fire performance certified separately. Where the screen incorporates a doorset, the minimum opening is 0.57 m high x 0.82 m wide. The structural integrity of a screen sits outside the scope of LPS 1175 and must be designed for the building, and only the locking systems listed on certificate 1097g carry the rating. See our Jansen security doors and LPS 1175 security windows.

| Ultimate High Security Curtain Walling 3 | 1097u/01 | Glazed curtain walling, achieving its rating from either the external or the internal face | 0.646 m to 20.0 m high; width from 0.646 m with no upper limit |
Ultimate High Security Curtain Walling is a separate, higher-specification system from the Jansen Façade range. The same family continues to D10 (SR4) and E10 (SR5), so a facade can be specified at C5 now with a clear upgrade path. Panels are glazed only, and structural design of the facade sits outside LPS 1175. See our security curtain walling.

| Kraken 3 cantilever sliding gate | 1097q/01 | Automatic or manual operation | 0.5 m to 6.0 m high x 3.0 m to 12.0 m wide; minimum free-standing height 2.4 m |
Kraken 3 gates below 2.4 m high must be installed within a four-sided structural opening, with a maximum ground gap of 90 mm, flat level ground and foundations offering equivalent attack resistance. Automatic gates are certified with a Surelock McGill electromechanical lock or IGEM maglock, with BFT or AYROS gate motors; manual gates use a Surelock McGill lock with approved cylinders. Any access control must offer at least 30,000 effective codes. See our vehicle access sliding gates and security gates.
C5 suits buildings where the credible threat is a planned attack with heavy hand tools, or where the assets inside justify more delay than SR2 provides. Typical openings and elevations include:
The right rating comes from a security risk assessment that weighs the asset value, the likely capability of an attacker and the time a response needs to arrive. Our technical team can review the assessment and recommend a rating for each opening.
For communal residential entrances and low-risk commercial openings where the threat is a determined opportunist, SR2 (B3) is the common choice.
If the threat includes power tools such as 18V disc grinders and reciprocating saws, or the asset value justifies a ten-minute delay, D10 (SR4) is more appropriate.
C5 is the Issue 8 classification commonly compared with SR3: both describe a deliberate attack with Category C tools held off for at least five minutes. Premier Security's C5 products are certified under Issue 8, so they carry C5 on their certificates and are often described as C5 (SR3). If a specification insists on Issue 7 SR3, confirm with the specifier that an Issue 8 C5 product is acceptable.
The Category C tool set: everything in Categories A and B (screwdrivers, pliers, knives, bolt cutters, a claw hammer, a cordless drill, steel tube and shears) plus an axe up to 900 mm, cold chisels, brick bolsters, a crowbar, a lump hammer and a gas torch. Testers attack the locked product and must not create a 400 mm x 225 mm opening within five minutes of working time.
No. Issue 8 uses the same Category C tools across several delay times. C3 means three minutes of resistance, C5 means five and C10 means ten. Always check both the letter and the number on the certificate, because a C3 product does not meet a C5 specification.
The Jansen Façade C5 Curtain Walling Doorset, Screen and Fixed Window (certificates 1097g, 1097h and 1097i), Ultimate High Security Curtain Walling 3 (1097u) and Kraken 3 cantilever sliding gates (1097q), all certified to LPS 1175 Issue 8 C5.
Yes. The Jansen Façade C5 range and Ultimate High Security Curtain Walling 3 are both certified to C5 with glazed panels, and Ultimate High Security Curtain Walling 3 is certified for openings up to 20 metres high with no width limit. The rating covers the assembly as tested; the structural design of the facade is a separate exercise.
Yes. A free-standing Kraken 3 gate must be at least 2.4 m high to carry its C5 rating. Lower gates carry the rating only when they are installed within a four-sided structural opening.
When the risk assessment points to an experienced attacker with power tools, such as 18V disc grinders and reciprocating saws, or when the assets inside justify a ten-minute delay. Data centres, utilities, high-value commercial sites and embassies commonly specify D10 (SR4) or above.
